INVESTITURE OF AN ARMY COMMANDER 1200 AD

King Shassamalle [ for coins of – Click] reigned at Polonnaruva in 1200 AD. He had an inscription installed on a stone slab 6 1/2  x  2 3/4  ft  standing upright at a spot north of Hatadage  close to Rankot Vehera at Polonnaruva on the 23 August 1200 a Wenesday. It is dated based on the Buddhist Era and an important in this respect. A part  is  of military interest as a very important declaration is made on it. This is the appointment of his army commander and the honours bestowed on the mother of the said commander. These attachments are extracted from Epigraphia Zeylanica Vol II by DM De Z.
