The different varieties of Type I Coins published and their fractional pieces found.

Four Gold Nuggets that were inscribed with the weight in Kalans was excavated during the Cultural Fund excavations at Anuradhapura. These were found with 22 gold Kalandas Coins during Abeyagiri Monastery excavations.These had been cast and inscribed in medieval Sinhala script. The weights are given in an ancient Sinhalese measure the Kalandas which is approximately 3.45 Grams. The name of Gold coins on inscriptions of Kings of the Island who ruled at Anuradhapura during the 8-9 Cent AD is Ran(gold) kalan[ A weight]. These inscriptions gives expenditure , income, taxes, deposits to monetary institutions , fines and donations etc that are valued in Ran kalan and its denominations- Ran De-aka and RanAka. The value of the first coined nugget is @ $ 1500 per oz round US $ 25,000 if its pure Gold. Refer to Kalandas of Gold.sirimunasiha.wordpress. Two of them shown below are marked a Ekasiya dek kalan and ekanu-anuwa. These are sinhala names for number 102 Kalandas of Gold[ 438 grams] or one less than ninety or 89 kalandas of gold. Inscribed Gold Ingot excavated by CFC Project.

These two  nuggets was found during Central Cultural Fund excavations at Anuradhapura, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka. The script is 7th  Cent  AD Sinhala .
