TYPE OF SRI LANKAN COINS FOUND
B.Coins that used for trade prior to the construction of the Dagabo in the 3 Cent AD , was found when the site around the Dagabo was excavated to the bed rock. The present site was close to the Eastern gate of the city and there was market tow. The is inscriptional evidence of a Bank or a Guild was located in the vicinity of the Jetawanarama , where monies and grain was deposited and the interest accrued was utilised for various functions of monasteries etc. The finds of most of the coins of traders from various countries , been found there amoung the lost or dropped coins used is not a surprise.
FOREIGN COIN FINDS
There are a large number of stone laid about the 7 Cent AD in the main courtyard of the Dagabo. These stones have been inscribed with names of those who donated the stones and other details of the donor. The money spent for the donations gives the Type of Currency in vogue. The names are
C. The people of the 7/8 Cent AD who donated towards the construction of Stone or granite paved terrace, called the currency or coins of that period Huna, Kalanda’s, De-Aka and Aka. The Kalanda and the Aka coin was found on site of the Stone Terrace, the construction of which is dated to 7 Cent AD.
