BULL & POT COINS,

BULL & POT SYMBOLS.

These two symbols  has been a favourite symbol of ancient mint masters or Rupa-adika. The Bull and Pot appears on either side of Railed Swastika on  number of ancient coins

This trend appears to have continued in the rectangular Bull series of coins.

Thereafter a series of coins are found mainly in the Island and a few in India, these coins too has the Bull and the Pot or Punkalas. In addition to these two symbols the two lamps begin to appear of coins found in Sri Lanka.

The three line that appear under the Riled swastika in the Goddess plaques appear under the main symbol on these coins. Mr Pushparatnam of the Jaffna University stressed on  this characteristic been  confined to Sri Lankan coins .
